We at CJAM — the Montreal Artists’ Legal Clinic — in partnership with CKUT 90.3FM McGill and CJLO 1690AM Concordia, have put together a special program designed to address the misconceptions musicians have that lawyers are a) boring and b) expensive.
Come to CJAM’s Musician’s Legal Bootcamp in the Shatner Ballroom on the McGill campus on November 14th to hear free, hopefully interesting, lawyers present a 3 hour workshop adressing the copyright and corporate law questions that musicians ask us every day including:
— I just wrote a song: What do I own?
— What is this record label/publisher/videogame company/television programmer getting when I sell her rights to what I wrote?
— What do my bandmates and I have to do to have a “company”?
— Do I really need to sign in blood?
— Is Jay Z going to jail for stealing that Big Pimpin’ hook?
Did we mention that it’s free? It is. Free, that is. There are still lawyers though, so, maybe a little boring.
Questions? Drop an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
Though the presentation will be given in English, our presenters are bilingual and will be more than happy to respond to questions in French.
The lawyers will welcome you starting at 11:30AM and the presentation will start at noon.
